Males and females<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">have, on average, different sets of talents, tastes, and interests, which<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">cause them to select somewhat different occupations and exhibit<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">somewhat different workplace behaviors. Some of these sex<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">differences have biological roots. Temperamental sex differences are<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">found in competitiveness, dominance-seeking, risk-taking, and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">nurturance, with females tending to be more \u201cperson-oriented\u201d and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">males more \u201cthing-oriented.\u201d The sexes also differ in a variety of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">cognitive traits, including various spatial, verbal, mathematical, and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">mechanical abilities. Although social influences can be important,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">these social influences operate on (and were in fact created by)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">sexually dimorphic minds.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">It is almost axiomatic that substantial changes in the environment<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">of a complex organism will result in changes in its behavior.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">Therefore, we should not be surprised when changes in the economy<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">or changes in the nature of work are followed by changes in<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">workforce behavior and hence changes in workplace outcomes. For<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">those keeping track of the \u201cnumbers,\u201d these changes may be<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">characterized as either increasing or decreasing equality, depending<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">upon the particular definition of equality selected.
